I’ve been reminiscing and daydreaming about Japan for months longing to return. The snow, the food, the lovely people, the efficient transport and again, the food! Japan is one of my favourite places to travel and if you’re a snow bunny like me I’d certainly recommend a visit for the snow alone. A snow trip in Japan is comically affordable compared to the prices we pay in Australia and worth every single dollar in the experience. I’d suggest visiting Nozawa Onsen rather than the more well known Hakuba or Sapporo. It’s easily accessible from Tokyo via bullet train to Nagano and local train to Togari Nozawa Onsen Station or local bus all the way into the village. There’s a fantastic village vibe to Nozawa Onsen and it’s filled with Japanese onsens. It’s a pretty small village, completely walkable on foot, and there’s lots of food to keep your appetite at bay after tearing up the slopes. I’d also recommend a half day trip to Jigokudani Monkey Park to get up close and personal with the snow monkeys. I’m plotting my return to Japan in 2016 and Nozawa is definitely on the agenda!
